How the JSON Formatter & Validator Works
Our JSON Formatter and Validator allows web developers, software engineers, and API designers to quickly format, clean up, minify, and validate JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) strings directly in the browser.
Key Features
- Format / Pretty Print: Converts unformatted JSON strings into clean, human-readable indented structures (2-space, 4-space, or Tab indentation).
- Minify: Strips out unnecessary whitespace, line breaks, and indentation to reduce file size for network payloads.
- Validation & Error Reporting: Parses input against strict RFC 8259 JSON standards and displays clear syntax error feedback when JSON parsing fails.
- Input Preservation: If validation fails, your original raw input is safely preserved in the editor so you can fix syntax errors without losing work.
Common JSON Syntax Errors to Avoid
- Trailing Commas: `"key": "value",` is invalid in standard JSON. Remove trailing commas before object or array closing brackets.
- Single Quotes: JSON keys and string values must be enclosed in double quotes (
"key"), not single quotes ('key'). - Unquoted Keys: Object property names must always be enclosed in double quotes.
- Comments: Standard JSON (RFC 8259) does not support JavaScript-style `//` or `/* */` comments.
Privacy Assurance: 100% of JSON parsing occurs in browser memory using native `JSON.parse`. We never transmit API keys or JSON payload contents over the network.
