How the Color Palette Generator Works
Our Color Palette Generator uses color theory mathematics in HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) color space to compute visually harmonious 5-color palettes based on a chosen base color and strategy.
Palette Generation Strategies Explained
- Monochromatic: Keeps hue constant while varying lightness values (from 15% to 85%) to produce clean, unified color scales ideal for UI backgrounds and borders.
- Analogous: Selects colors positioned adjacent to the base hue on the 360° color wheel (-60°, -30°, 0°, +30°, +60°), producing smooth, natural color transitions.
- Complementary: Pairs the base color with its exact opposite on the color wheel (180° offset) alongside tinted variations for vibrant accent contrast.
- Triadic: Uses three evenly spaced colors around the color wheel (120° offsets) to create dynamic, high-energy palettes.
